Nanuet is a hamlet located in the Town of Clarkstown. It is 19 miles north of Manhattan, and 2 miles north of the New Jersey border.
Public transportation is within close proximity. Easy accessibility to the George Washington Bridge, Palisades Interstate Parkway, New York State Thruway, Tappan Zee Bridge and the Garden State Parkway.
Only minutes away are two well known shopping destinations. The Palisades Center Mall located in West Nyack which is one of the ten largest enclosed malls in the country. Easily traveled on Rte 59 is the convenient Nanuet Mall.
In 2007, CNN Money ranked Nanuet 24th on its annual 100 Best Places to Live list.
According to the New York Times, the hamlet was first named Nannawitt's Meadow after Nannawitt, a migatory Kakiat Indian who settled in the area now occupied by the Nanuet Mall at the intersection of Middletown Road and Route 59. After several name changes the hamlet became known as Nanuet in 1856.
